All long term Waitrose users are aware of the continuing slide in the store's standards which began ... well, around the millennium. With this particular store there are several issues: *Can't use cash at the self check out. *Never any staff around when issues arise at the self check out; expect to wait at least a few to several or more minutes until someone arrives from the other end of the store, where they run back to before you can say PLC. *They generally seem understaffed, best not to visit during busy periods unless you're here on holiday from another country and want to experience the British ability to queue. * Very poor shelf labeling. Have a look at the bakery section, several items on the shelves aren't priced. Also, if you buy loose avocados - one to ripen at home, you will be charged for the ripe and ready to eat variety by the check out staff - one time it makes self check-out worthwhile. * Very poor wine selection. Back in the 80's and 90's Waitrose was the go-to supermarket for wine. Not any more. Go to the Co-Op. As well as being exorbitantly over priced, Waitrose - well, this one anyway, stock mainly screw topped bottles, unless you're willing to pay £10 (9.49) or more. Also, only a few organic choices. * I never like to complain about people, and some of the staff here are really very pleasant, but generally, it's fair to say, that customer service isn't as high on the agenda here as it is in most of the dozen plus other Waitrose stores I've used. * Last but not least. Tut tut tut Waitrose! Talk about being pro-drivers! The only entrance and exit for the store is bang on the car park. If you're on foot - tough, Waitrose want your shoe leather! You have to walk all the way to the car park region and then double back on yourself. During warmer months the cafe door can be used, permitting those who don't want to 'drive' to the shops to miss out on the bother of lugging their shopping bags an additional 200 yards or so.

Staff are always very polite and helpful. We found the wait for hot drinks much longer than expected. There were plenty of staff but they didn't seem very organised and the queue just got longer, moving very slowly.
